An initiative
group established in 2002 and comprised of the representatives
of transport companies, freight forwarders, European freight
villages network, customs warehouses and export-import terminals,
road building companies, and transport science institutions
declared that using European experience is a must for establishing
a Logistics Centre in the Vilnius region which will integrate
road and rail transport modes. The government of the Republic
of Lithuania, the Ministry of Transport, and the Lithuanian
Customs approved the purposefulness of this project.
A public organization
‘Vilniaus regiono logistikos centras’ (‘Vilnius
Region Logistics Centre’), which coordinates and administrates
the project of the Vilnius region Logistics Centre, was established
on 25 April 2003.
The main goals
of this organization are:
To establish and develop in the Vilnius region a comprehensive
centre of transport infrastructure which will service freight
flows in international transport corridors To optimize transport
flows and freight allocation by providing integrated logistics
services To develop an infrastructure near the main roads
and railway lines by connecting transport systems with transport
and logistics services companies Vilnius County administration,
the Lithuanian National Association of Road Carriers LINAVA,
the National Association of Bonded Warehouses and Export-Import
Terminals, the Association of Road Builders ‘Lietuvos
keliai”, the Lithuanian National Association of Freight
Forwarders LINEKA, Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and
Crafts, and the private company ‘Kroviniu ir logistikos
centras’ all take part in the activities of this public
organization. |
